A Model-Order Reduction Approach to Parametric Inversion of Electromagnetic Data

In this paper we present a nonlinear inversion method based on the Pade Via Lanczos (PVL) process. We show that the scattered field due to a homogeneous object is actually a rational function of the contrast coefficient and that this scattered field can be computed for a whole range of coefficients via the PVL process. The true medium parameters of the object are obtained by minimizing an objective function which describes the discrepancy between predicted and measured data. Minimization can be carried out by inspection, since predicted scattered field data can be computed very efficiently using PVL. Possible extensions of the method are also discussed and some numerical experiments will illustrate the performance of the method.
