THz near-field measurements of metal structures
THz near-field measurements of metal structures

Using broadband THz time domain spectrosocpy, we have performed deep sub-wavelength THz electric near-field measurements of metal structures. Our method allows us to measure all three orthogonal components of the electric field in a plane underneath the sample. Results for single sub-wavelength-sized holes, hole arrays, and meta-material elements will be shown. The single hole results will be compared to the theoretical model of Bouwkamp and with numerical calculations. Our measurements provide a graphic and intuitive picture of how light emerges from sub-wavelength sized structures.
