Transient effects in the near-field zone

Transient effects in the near-field zone

Neil Budko
TU Delft

The space-time evolution of the electromagnetic field in the near-field zone presents a challenge for the traditional "propagational" interpretation leading to apparent superluminal and even negative velocities of light. The transient effects responsible for this exotic behavior are uncovered and discussed. Even more exotic phenomena are expected to be present in a time-varying background.
